Susan Sarandon Bio

It was the 1968 Democratic Convention and there was a casting request for a film that had many characters for youngsters who interrupted it. Two recent graduates of Catholic University in Washington DC were invited to auditions in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon, who had studied to be an actor, was passed by. His wife Susan was chosen for a leading role as Susan Compton and is the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the film Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer friend and then befriends Joe (Peter Boyle)-- an obnoxious worker on an assembly line and who collects guns.Five years after, Sarandon made the film that fans of the cult classics are familiar with her character Janet, who gets entangled with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). More than 15 years after making her debut, Sarandon has finally been actively campaigning for a starring role in the film Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying at her own expense from Rome to Los Angeles. Sarandon said that "It was such a great script... it dispelled a lot of myths and challenged America's definition of success". "I was there for a while with Kevin Costner, sex some guys at the studio, before getting back on the plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988), supporting actor was her first lover. He had two sons by 1992. This left Sarandon in an awkward position. She was forced to leave her home to perform the most challenging roles. The result was four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s and for the best actress in Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
